From an interview I conducted with a successful college graduate about his discipline issues in primary school:

In 4th grade I strangled a kid for spelling a word wrong and causing us to lose a team spelling bee.

He learned from his mistake and has a good sense of humor about it now. He’s currently a proponent of respectful discipline and authority in public education, in part because of how effectively his own transgressions were dealt with - by a concerted effort from his parents, teachers and the administration - when he was a student.
