Cooperstown School Board Election - Thanks and Appreciation

by Matthew K. Tabor on May 18, 2007

The results are in for this year’s Cooperstown School Board election, annual budget and Capital Project. Congratulations to both Mary Leonard and Paula Greene on their successful bids. Both women are intelligent, capable, and undoubtedly have a strong commitment to the District.

Though my candidacy was unsuccessful, I want to express my deep appreciation to those who supported me throughout the campaign. We brought to the forefront of the District some issues critical to the future success of our schools.

I will continue to maintain the Cooperstown School District section of this website to make available public documents (school board meeting agenda, etc.) for those who can’t attend the meetings. Again, thanks and appreciation to everyone who voted.

Matthew, I’m sorry your candidacy was unsuccessful. If anything, you have a strong fire in the belly for reform and I hope you will continue to speak out on behalf of the children in Cooperstown. These children need a voice and they need to know someone out there will speak for them. Let’s keep in touch.

Thanks for the kind words, E.C. - I will most definitely keep in touch [I already read your site daily via my RSS reader!].

A great characteristic of the public school system is that even those candidates who are unsuccessful can still participate in the education process in a variety of ways.

I think that most people would agree that nearly all school board candidates throw their names into the ring because they want to help. I look forward to lending my time, energy and skills to the District and its alumni as often as possible in the future.
