Got a Blog? Free Customized Keychain Time.

by Matthew K. Tabor on July 17, 2007

Or a nameplate, your choice. I usually don’t go for web promotions – they often fail to deliver, don’t they? – but this one is too easy to pass up.

Customized Engraving is offering a nameplate or keychain to anyone who posts the link on their blog [details here]. If you need plaques, signage, keychains or nameplates, it appears that Customized Engraving is the place to go.

Get it while it’s hot!

Thanks to ms_teacher for the heads up.

Hi Matthew

[Excuse my ranting, just get worked up when I am sold bullshit. No offence meant.]

I followed the link and ran straight into marketing bullshit.

You are interested in education. What does a fresh mind learn about the word FREE when nowadays it doesn’t mean what it did.

Point in case, to get your “Free” chain/doodad you have to “buy it” by linking.

Is this really “Free”?

Education – means to draw from within.
Children are the wells of the future and we’re stuffing them with the past.

I like the “Old Free”, like the air I am breathing .

cheers, Grant

Your rant isn’t a rant at all – it’s the first three minutes of Microeconomics 101. Your argument rests on opportunity cost.

Was the keychain free? No – I spent ~two minutes of my time writing a post to get it.

This engraving company needs to make a buck just like everyone else. I appreciate an offer that gives me, the customer, value. You’ve decided that five minutes is a bad trade for this offer. I found their promotion tasteful and relevant to me since my keychain broke last week. And, at $15 for 5 minutes, that works out to $180/hr, if we’re quantifying the opportunity cost. You must do better than I if your concerns about “marketing bullshit” trump the potential value you’re receiving here.

I’d continue with the details about your body expending energy to breathe – really, the air you’re breathing isn’t free at all – but, ironically, the opportunity cost of the endeavor is unjustified.

I opted for the $40 key chain and I think it took me even less than five minutes to post this on my blog. The nice thing about this freebie is that they do not even charge for shipping, which I’ve seen a lot on the web for other “free stuff.”

Hi Matthew

I have no objection to making money. I object to everything being turned into marketing and being marketed at. Just, tell it as it is.

Give us a few minutes of your time and we’ll give you a keychain! I know that doesn’t sound nearly as enticing as “FREE!”

Air is free, what you do with it is your choice. You can pump crap into it, breath it or not.
Well actually you cant not breath it for too long, well unless your dead that is.

Send me your postal details and I’ll send you something Free. Yes, I’m being serious. You’ll just have to wait and see what it is, if it arrives.

cheers, Grant
