Search Function Fixed!

by Matthew K. Tabor on August 11, 2007

I finally got rid of two things that plagued this site daily.

The first was re-enabling the search feature in the top right sidebar. The buggy, rotten newsletter subscription code was hijacking the search box – taking out the subscription element temporarily fixed that. I’ll re-enable newsletter subscription when I can find a proper newsletter/mailing list service that’s a) affordable or b) free and not laden with ads.

The second bug came from the Technorati : Education feed that was located on the right sidebar. I liked the feed a lot – it showed the latest 10 posts labeled “education” in Technorati. Unfortunately, when that feed went down, so did this site. The sidebars, header and footer would load but the middle – ie, all the content – would remain a blank white space. It happened too often [twice a day?], was unpredictable and was beyond my control. I had to scrap it for now.

Search away!

Hurray for search features. Too bad about Technorati feature. Can’t remember off the top of my head but it does seem that there is a way to order a page to render even if a certain portion is unavailable.
