Joe?!? I don't think I've ever gotten one that didn't start with an M.

I got an e-mail this week addressed to Mark. A few hours later they sent another saying that since my e-mail is "mktabor," the m-k turned into Mark by mistake. That made sense and is probably the source of a lot of the Marks I get.

Hey, Matt (scratch that) Matthew, I love your take on the name. Although I am Mark, I often get Mike, Matt or even Joe. I've always thought it shows a great disrespect and disdain for someone to get your name wrong.

Interesting Meme all around.

"Lunch was a half-pound of bacon covered with chipotle cheddar cheese. Simple, quick, crispy, awesome, but likely not healthy."

Well, it was nice to know you, Manny...

Have you ever won the caption contest?

The Jack Daniel's coffee sounds crazier than it is. It isn't whiskey flavored or anything like that, they're just making a buck off the label. It is, however, very good coffee - I'd recommend it to anyone.

One of the best things I ever did was sign up with Gevalia. They run lots of promos that give you free coffee makers and a couple pounds of excellent coffee. I spent a few months getting different bags and eventually figured out how to blend different flavors to get exactly what I wanted. I basically find a base coffee I like [for some reason Yuban hits me well] and then add other coffees to get the desired taste.

I'm thinking about getting some things from www.coffeeflavoroils.com - I'm pretty intrigued by their list.

I'm also surprised at both the lack of outrage you described and especially by the complacency of owners and the players union. All it takes is for owners to say that they won't tolerate steroid use at all - that they won't deal for players who have committed drug-related offenses - and stand by it. The ownership hasn't taken a tough stance at all. Had they done it 20 years ago, we might have a very different situation today.

Matthew,

Thanks for the plug, never hurts to have publicity.

I thought I would comment about your #6. Personally, I am a huge soccer fan (can you tell from my blog) and not much more than a casual baseball fan (I love going to my local minor league team games). The steriods scandal bothers not because it happened but because more people are not outraged by the matter. Comparison with decades old records, as you point out, is largely meaningless since modern athletes are better coached, have better conditions, access to generations of health care advancements and better equipment.

But despite all those advancements, there are some players who feel they have to do something more to win. Striving to be your best is admirable, but cheating to get there is not. But the casual fan doesn't really care about that, they want to see Bonds go yard or Clemens throw a perfect game with 100 mph heat or a curve ball that falls off the table (or both). That is my beef. If the casual fan said, play hard and play within the rules or you won't get my money, you would see changes in player behavior because management would see their funds and ticket revenues dry up.

Just a thought.
