My Personal Learning Network [PLN]

by Matthew K. Tabor on April 7, 2008

Personal Learning Networks [PLNs] are all the rage – I must read 20 posts/articles a day that address PLNs explicitly or reference them.  To see an example of a PLN graphic and its explanation, check out David Warlick’s exposition.

If you’re curious, you can take a look at my PLN.

For a second there I thought you were about to endorse a David Warlick idea, and my head was going to explode.

What exactly is the point of having a PLN? Other than to show off your mad computer diagram making skills?

Robert,

Folks like us who question the value of a PLN will, undoubtedly, be deemed by the ed-tech’ers as fearing what we don’t understand. This is tripe.

Warlick’s explanation of his PLN really is worth reading, though. He’s essentially describing being human and being productive – it’s a remarkable example of the ed-tech tendency to go around the barn to get to the front door. Or, more specifically, to spend time diagramming and justifying what many people have known for centuries.
