I’ve been distracted and busy - I’ll get back to posting and following up on some comments in due time. I’m eager to have a few of these discussions.
For now, here’s Dolly Parton singing ‘Coat of Many Colors’ [YouTube video] on The Porter Wagoner Show [1974] - one of my favorite songs, and one of the most touching songs I’ve ever heard.

I think Dolly Parton and Willy Nelson got me through college. Well that Black Sabbath and Steppenwolf.
OK I was still finding myself.

Chan,
You know, I never really liked Willie Nelson. He played in Cooperstown with Bob Dylan a few years ago, and I remember trying to figure out then why I didn’t like him that much.
I guess I gravitate toward the Dollys because they seem to live first and write songs second. Willie Nelson, although unique and prolific, just seems to write songs and smoke weed. Eh, boring to me. I’d rather he just wrote songs for others to perform - there’s no doubt that his writing talent is legendary.
