Public Education Discussion on RFC Radio, Wednesday, June 17, 10pm EST
There will be an hour of talk radio dedicated to discussing the general state of public education in the US airing tonight, Wednesday, June 17th, at 10pm EST on RFCradio on Dr. Melissa Clouthier’s “The Right Doctor” show.
The Right Doctor has an exciting guest for the evening - me - and we’ll be talking about all sorts of topics related to education: a bit of legislation, some teaching, some local school administration/governance.
You can listen to the show by going to www.rfcradio.com and clicking ‘Listen.’
There will also be a live chat as the show airs - I’ll be in the room, along with the Doctor and many others, to discuss elements of the show or any related topic that comes up. You can access the chat by going to www.rfcradio.com/chat .
See you there - and if you can’t make it, I’ll link to the podcast [which includes about 15 minutes of additional content] when it’s available.

Matt, can you just run for office and make this easier on all of us! :)
Many of us no longer believe in public education…at least education wherein the federal government has a hand in it. In fact many people I encounter are pretty down on government, period. What has the goverment EVER successfully run? Every program they sponsor is in financial ruin and so heavily bogged down with regulation it can’t even serve the purpose for which is started! The fact that “public education” is in crisis does not surprise me at all when I look around to see WHO is in charge of it and consider all of the government’s lies and corruption. These people want me to entrust them with the minds of my children? Are they serious? Their actions have hardly warranted my confidence in that! I want to run as far away from them as possible, not give them MORE control! Never, ever will my children attend the public school. I’ll teach them myself before I’d send them into that den of lions!
The simple fact is, education became too big, too bureaucratic. It is about fundamentals and keeping things small, with parents-citizens with the most direct and intent interest and purest motivation-in full control of how they choose to educate their children. The wave of the future may be in curriculum sold in the free market in bookstores or on the internet, with loosely formed associations of parents and their children banning together to support one another. Where the schools are failing our kids here, parents here are refusing to allow it to occur. They are pulling their kids out and finding real solutions that fit their kids’ individual needs. The results are nothing short of amazing!
Our education in the US does need to be looked at quite a bit. Hopefully they made some progress after airing the show!
Cristi,
I’m with you when you say that the free market solutions may be our best hope. There are some people who have done incredible things on small scales - and done them in a financially feasible way. Battling the entrenched union and public school system is a massive hurdle… and the first step is to have parents and community members step up and say “No.”

I’m sorry you live in a place with a bad school system. I don’t. localize your criticism, or don’t criticize.
Where have you gone????
